April Telikin Cares

Wynnfield Telikin smApril Telikin Cares - Congratulations to this month's Telikin Cares recipients Wynnfield Crossing and The Salvation Army Laura Danieli Activity Center!

Wynnfield Crossing

In her nomination letter, Kay Cox, the Executive Director at Wynnfield Crossing in Rochester, IN, described her residents as “some of the nicest elder folks you would ever want to meet!” She explained how most of them are not computer savvy (yet!) and said that she “can’t wait to see the looks on their faces when they Skype for the first time with a special great grandchild, to see the movement on the computer screen of the lively little ones and the excitement on their faces to be able to stay connected with family so far away!”

Wynnfield Resident with Telikin ComputerKay also hopes to start a “Contact Day” where residents will sign up to video chat with their loved ones. She can already see the residents at the next day’s “Social Hour” sharing with one another the information they learned from their virtual visits with their family.

Thank you to Kay for nominating Wynnfield Crossing. We are very excited for the residents to start video chatting and staying in touch with their loved ones!

You can visit the Wynnfield Crossing website for more information about their community.

The Salvation Army Laura Danieli Senior Activity Center

Marco Mendoza, a student at the Arizona State University, nominated The Salvation Army Laura Danieli Senior Activity Center in Phoenix, AZ for our Telikin Cares program. He is a volunteer there who has spearheaded the collaboration between ASU and the center. In his nomination, he wrote about the collaboration and about how through this program came the realization that communities benefit from active engagement and are strengthen by these intergenerational relationships.

One of their most recent activities was a talent show put on by ASU students who not only performed but also got the seniors involved.

Marco also plans to create a Computer Lab and an intergenerational social media café where ASU students will use Telikins to teach computing skills as well as interact with others virtually.

Thank you to Marco for nominating The Salvation Army Laura Danieli Senior Activity Center, and we can’t wait to see their Telikin Computer Lab!

You can visit The Salvation Army Laura Danieli Senior Activity Center Facebook page for more information.
