Welcome to Telikin - The concept for Telikin was born out of a very simple idea-that everyone in the family should be able to stay connected through technology.
Families today are so spread out. People move across the country to take a job and children go away to college. Everyone can’t just gather for Sunday night dinner at grandma and grandpa’s house. This doesn’t mean, however, that we shouldn’t be able to see the face and hear the voice of our loved ones.
Technology provides amazing possibilities for communicating across distances. Families and friends can use social network sites, video chat, and email to keep in touch. However, computers have been frustrating and difficult for many seniors, preventing them from using these great technology tools. Many are still left out of the online conversation or have been left feeling discouraged about the online experience. Even though more of those 65+ are getting online, according to the latest Pew Research Study, the study also states that this demographic is still the least likely to be using the internet.
I saw this happen with my own family. My mother has seven children, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren spread all over the world. Many years ago, she suffered from a stroke, and although she made tremendous strides in keeping an active life, as she aged, her vision and mobility decreased.
As my brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, have all gotten online to share photos and exchange emails to stay updated on life events, the matriarch of our family wasn’t able to join this conversation because traditional computers were too complicated and too unpredictable. She needed a way that she could simply touch what she saw to get what she wanted. As an engineer, I knew there had to be an easier way.
And now there is. Telikin offers a different—a simple—computing experience, not just for seniors, but for anyone who is frustrated with traditional PC’s. Users can do the things they want to do, such as make video chat calls, share photos, send emails, check the news, view the weather, browse the web, play games, write documents, all without any hassles. Three touches and a grandmother in Idaho can see photos of her grandchildren in Texas. Three touches and a parent can video chat with her child in college. With Telikin, families are now all just three touches away from staying connected. I see the difference this has made not only in my family, but also in our customers’ families, and I hope to continue seeing the difference in families everywhere.
As we launch the Telikin blog, we hope that you find it to be a forum for both education and discussion not only about our computer, but about technology, healthy aging, keeping connected, and more. Communication is a two-way street, so your comments and feedback are always welcome and strongly encouraged!
Welcome and sincere thanks,
